What does an Ergonomic Assessment consist of?
COPE will send a skilled Ergonomist to conduct a detailed workplace ergonomics survey or assessment using appropriate and relevant
risk analysis tools. These tools include assessment tools like:
- RULA - Rapid Upper Limb assessment
- REBA - Rapid Entire Body assessment
- MAC - Manual Handling Assessment Charts
- ART - Assessment of Repetitive upper limb Tasks
The Ergonomist will then present the findings in a written report and identify wider issues for further study. The recommend ergonomic
interventions are prioritised by "most gain/least cost".
We can also assist with implementation of changes either by the organisation itself or with additional input from engineers, designers,
industrial hygienists, etc. Help with ongoing trials and evaluation of effectiveness of improvements.

Previous projects and clients
Task assessments for Overhead Linesmen using Hand tools and ladders:
Linesmen using heavy hand tools and climbing gear often report discomfort in using certain tools. COPE provided an ergonomist
to assist a major utilities group in formulating safe protocols for using roof ladders, as well as usability testing on a variety of different
hand tools.
Posture assessments of Weavers using industrial weaving looms:
Weaving looms require operators to assume various awkward postures and use repetitive actions to complete their work. COPE provided an
Ergonomist to assess and score the postures and tasks using Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) and Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) and
the Manual Handling Assessment Chart (MAC) to formulate solutions to the reported discomfort. Solutions included tasks rotation,
physiotherapy posture aides.
Manual Handling of Laundry Staff and Risk assessment of MSD’s of Massage staff at Famous Holiday Resort:
Laundry staff is required to lift heavy linen bags using awkward postures and Sauna staff use a number of repetitive techniques when
perfuming their range of massages. COPE provided an Ergonomistand Physiologists to assess Manual Handling operations and performed a
postural analysis. Recommendations included Manual Handling aids, training and alternative techniques and posture to avoid WRMSD’s.
Ergonomic assessment of a safety critical control room:
COPE assessed a newly commissioned Oil and Gas plant. The assessment consisted of informal interviews with control room operators, physical
environment measurements, workstation assessments, Scenario walk-through and an assessment of HCI. An impact assessment was made on each of
the issues reported and an impact score from no Human Factors impact to Unacceptable Human Factors Impact were presented to the customer
together with recommendations for improvement. All recommendations presented were supported by Human Factors best practice and International
Standards and Regulations.
