Sickness Absence Management Training

COPE provide the leading Sickness Absence Management Training in the UK by looking holistically at absence and focusing on achieving the highest levels of attendance for your organisation – not simply reducing the percentage absence rate by following procedures!

Quite simply, your employees are the most important asset you have in your business. To survive – and thrive – into the 21st century, all UK businesses must focus on maximising employee contribution and productivity.

In short, we equip you to create a “partnership culture” with your staff where you can proactively support productive attendance at work.

COPE’s approach to Sickness Absence Management Training

Firstly – we are always bespoke!  There is no such thing as one size fits all. We get to know your business and create a meaningful training and coaching intervention. Unlike most training providers – we cover;

  • All facets of sickness absence management training benefit from our multidisciplinary team of professionals – experienced Human Resources professionals, Occupational Health Services advisors and practitioners.
  • We are flexible – our sickness absence management training includes everything from small, intimate coaching sessions for more senior staff through to broader, sessional based courses across the whole organisation from supervisors upwards.
  • We make sure that any training you pay for is practical and transferrable back into the work place with structured tools.

When to carry out Sickness Absence Management Training?

  • You want to zap your company’s culture with a ‘prevention’ mentality – not wait until you have a problem
  • You have a new management structure or team and want to develop your team to manage absence effectively
  • You want to create a personal development opportunity for recently promoted staff
  • You have some complex, legally risky cases in the business

Why Training?

If the Board need to be convinced – look first at cost! - UK average cost of sickness absence in a recent CIPD (www.cipd.co.uk) survey in 2009 £692 per employee every year. In the public sector the sickness rate is one-and-a-half times the rate in the private sector in general (www.guardian.co.uk). Then consider these top 3 challenges which our training can support you to resolve safely, creatively and legally:

  • “While some of my employees are off sick, about a quarter will struggle in when they shouldn't - and will be performing at a sub-optimal level?  How can I tackle this ‘presenteeism’?”
  • “I have problems with sickness absence but my employee is pregnant or disabled or suffering from stress – is it safe to tackle these cases?”
  • “What about the new GP ‘Fit Note’ – how can we run a business with all this emphasis on rehabilitation – we need staff who can do their full job!”
